Some articles/topics you all responded to:
-"What is poverty?" Parker
-gay marriage
-"Is Everybody Happy?" by J. Ciardi
-"Why I stopped Being a Vegetarian"
-mistreatments of women in Haiti
-"I Think, Therefore IM" by Jennifer 8. Lee
-environment/recycling -Perrin
-"Saving Nature, but Only for Man" Krauthammer (interesting stance in this one)
-"Rappin' Islam" [differentiating religion from culture]
-"Who Blew up America" Amiri Baraka
-"The Myth of Latin Woman: I Just Met a Girl Named Maria" by Cofer [interesting]
These are all "interesting;" I just found some even more intriguing than others. This is only my personal opinion though.
Use these to think and work through P3 w/each other.

To all my 1102 students:
I just want you to know that I am moved, inspired, and intrigued by your writings across our blogs, homework assignments, et al. I know what it means to transition from high school (& a questionable public school system) right into college life. It's no trivial thing; not easy for the best of us.
And your writing is a tool: for communication, expression, understanding, processing, and more. I have used writing in my personal life to get through the most difficult times and trust me, I've had my share.
In your writing I see intelligence, thoughtfulness based not merely in intellect, but in compassion, and much more. Please do not underestimate the power of language & composition in our lives, but especially just know that you all have something of value to "add to the mix," whether you know it or not.
Sincerely,
jeff honnold

Rogerian
It occurs to me that using film to debate ethical issues makes it easier. These are very complex, difficult issues dealing with ethics, morality, and the rest. Using movies as a focal point just makes it easier. It also grounds all of these abstract themes in something concrete that we all share...well, the vast majority of us anyway: movies.
