It occurs to me that using film to debate ethical issues makes it easier. These are very complex, difficult issues dealing with ethics, morality, and the rest. Using movies as a focal point just makes it easier. It also grounds all of these abstract themes in something concrete that we all share...well, the vast majority of us anyway: movies.
